Smile

I’ve been wondering about smiling.

A grin, it seems louder,

Like someone carved it out of you,

Like jagged peril in your mouth

A smile is just wholesome,

An opening of the lips

That means nothing but

Thank you, thank you, thank you,

A baring of the teeth is a smile

For pride in your own terror,

In your own fearful power,

Thank you thank you,

A smirk, that’s much that same

As teeth for claws, a quirk of the mouth

That has pleased itself
