Daydream in Blue: A Cento

*lines from Hawthorn and Child by Keith Ridgway

I’m seeing more blue:

what kind of blue?

In a thousand years this would all be buried.

He is swimming in the river

and the river is on his skin

He turned up out of the blue

we walked by a river and

nothing bad happened

There are always sounds.

I am all scenic route

in the blue of the van,

blue overalls.

All that sky, like the city is upside-down

Beneath the ice there is something

that is not broken.

His skin is a manila envelope,

the lights looked wet in the warmth,

I am talking to myself

and you are watching

because this is human.
